Pacers Fall to Griffins in CSAC Semifinals

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Gwynedd-Mercy College built a 10-4 halftime lead and held on to secure a 17-11 victory over Marywood University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse semifinals Wednesday afternoon. The top-seeded Griffins, now 12-4,will host second seed Cabrini, who were 25-12 winners over Neumann in the other Wednesday afternoon's other semifinal, in Saturday's CSAC Championship game, while the Pacers see their season end with a 7-9 record.

Gwynedd-Mercy built a 3-0 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game before Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA) scored off of a Jacquelyn Swallow (Richboro, PA) assist at the 18:26 mark of the first half. The Griffins responded with three consecutive goals to build a 6-1 lead with 10:04 to play in the opening stanza.

Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH) sandwiched a pair of goals around one by the Griffins' Colleen Dellostretto to bring the score to 7-3 and following another goal by the hosts, Sodl netted her second marker of the day to cut the Pacers' deficit to 8-4 before the Griffins scored the final two goals of the first 30 minutes of play.

Jen Silvestri (Warwick, NY) scored just under a minute into the second half for Marywood and the Pacers were able to cut Gwynedd-Mercy's lead to four at 13-8 with 16:22 to play on Sodl's third goal of the game, but the Pacers were unable to come any closer as the Griffins outscored Marywood 4-3 over the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Dellostretto led Gwynedd-Mercy's attack, scoring seven goals and assisting on two others. Shannon Carabba added five tallies and an assist to lead the Griffins to their first-ever appearance in the CSAC Championship game.

McKeown (four goals) and Swallow (one goal and three assists) each finished the game with four points to lead Marywood. Sodl added three goals and Silvestri added two goals and an assist in the loss.

The Griffins kept Marywood goalie Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) busy, firing off 45 shots to the Pacers 36. Sullivan registered 22 saves in 58 and a half minutes of action before being relieved by Kristy Califano (Suffern, NY) who turned aside two Griffins' shots.

Gwynedd-Mercy netminder Trisha Timony saw 36 shots and recorded 17 stops.
