Marywood Tops Neumann For Fourth-Straight Win

Drexel Hill, PA – Marywood University improved to 4-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a 17-10 victory of Neumann College Wednesday afternoon in a game played at Monsignor Bonner High School. The Pacers lifted their overall record to 6-4 with the win while the Knight see their record slide to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Neumann's Dominic Collichio opened up the scoring at the 9:49 mark of the first quarter before Marywood's Jamie Beagan (Patchogue, NY) equalized just 14 seconds later and then put the Pacers in front with a goal at the 8:37 mark off a Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) assist.

Parks and William Roerden (Warwick, NY) would answer a goal by the Knights' Corey Laforte to give Marywood a 4-2 lead after the first period of play.

The two teams traded the first four goals of the second quarter before Neumann battled back to tie the game at 6-6 on consecutive goals by Kyle Gardner and Collichio before Andrew Lozoskie gave Marywood a 7-6 halftime lead with an unassisted tally with 2:01 remaining in the half.

Ryne Boyle (Farmingville, NY) and Roerden scored goals in the opening 3:46 of the second half to give Marywood a three goal cushion before Collichio got one back for the hosts. Marywood countered with goals from Dustin Sturdevant (Binghamton, NY) and Boyle before the Knights netted one with 11 seconds remaining as the Pacers took an 11-8 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.

Marywood broke the game open in the first 3:13 of the fourth quarter, getting goals from four different players to take a 14-8 lead when George DeAngelo (Bethlehem, PA) scored with 11:47 remaining in the contest.

Following a marker by Neumann's Bryan Capone with 7:31 left, a pair of Pacers scored the first goals of their collegiate careers as Sean Myers (Fallston, MD) tallied with 5:29 to play and Chris Riley (Islip, NY) found twine with 1:40 to play.

Marywood, who got four-point games from Boyle, Roerden, Beagen, and Parks, held a 58-33 edge in shots for the game and won the groundball battle 31-24. The Pacers went 1-4 in extra-man opportunities while Neumann was 1-5 in man-up situations.

The Pacers' Eric Luhrmann (Glens Falls, NY) made eight saves in 45 minutes of action to pick up the win while Jesse Habich (Broomall, PA) made two saves in 15 minutes between the Pacers pipes.

Marywood will return to action this Saturday when they host Penn State Abington in a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon in Scranton.
