BOX SCORE

Langhorne, PA - Matt Newcomb hit a first inning grand slam and Joe Diskin and Jeff Cleary each went 3-for-4 as visiting Marywood University spoiled Philadelphia Biblical University's senior day with a 7-2 win over the host Crimson Eagles Friday afternoon in CSAC baseball action.  Hoping to make their last home game of the season their first win of the year, the Crimson Eagles were unable to pull off the task as Marywood exploded for five runs in the top of the first to go ahead for good.

During a contest littered with rain throughout, PBU struggle to produce at the plate, knocking around just five hits through seven innings. The host squad was locked up offensively by rookie hurler Mason Webster who allowed just one earned run through four innings of work.  Webster (Hop Bottom, PA) evened his first-year record at 3-3 with the win.  Alex Magid (South Salem, NY) picked up a save after working three innings of relief with out allowing a hit.

Marywood (9-23, 3-10 CSAC) got on board early, tallying five runs in the top of the first highlighted by a shot with the bases loaded by senior Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA).  Newcomb, who now has 54 hits and leads the team with four long-balls and 36 RBI, is just three hits shy of tying the Pacers' all-time single-season hits record holder Ryan Federico. The Pacers would then add two runs in the third to go up 7-0 as Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) and Pat Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) each picked up RBIs.  Pat's younger brother Joe was 3-for-4 on the day.

The Crimson Eagles (0-24, 0-13) showed some life in the bottom of the fourth but failed to capitalize to the full extent, leaving three costly runners on base for the inning. Down 7-2 heading into the eighth, the game was eventually called due to a increased percipitation down the stretch.

Tom Fenwick, Brent Fornwalt, Mike Sundholm, Matt betts, and Ricky Ragone each charted a single hit for the game for PBU.

Weather permitting, the Pacers and Crimson Eagles will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader in Scranton on Saturday beginning at noon.
