Scranton, PA – Senior pitcher Korey Evans fired a complete game in the opener and fellow classmate Matt Newcomb set a new single-season hits record for Marywood as the host Pacers completed a series sweep against visiting Philadelphia Biblical University with a 6-1 win in the opener and a 13-3 victory in the nightcap. With the wins, Marywood completes their season at 11-23 (5-10 CSAC) while PBU fell to 0-26 (0-15 CSAC).

Evans (Goshen, NY) had walked three batters but had not allowed a hit heading into the seventh, but PBU's Shawn Bramble singled to left to break up the senior's attempt at a no-hitter. After another single, Mike Sundholm sent a shot to center to break up Marywood's shutout as well.

Marywood jumped on Crimson Eagles' starter Matt Betts early and often as the Pacers got all six of their runs in the opening two innings of play. The Pacers would go on to pound out 14 hits on the day, but could not plate another run as Betts settled down and held the Pacers in check over their final four at-bats.

Newcomb started the first game 3-for-3 with three singles and an RBI as the senior tied Ryan Federico's school single-season record of 57 hits. Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) would ground out in his final at-bat of the opener, forcing him wait for the nightcap for another shot at the record. Joe Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) went 3-4 with a triple and two runs scored, while Ed Zakrzewski (Three Bridges, NJ) added a triple and double in a 2-for-3 day in the opener.

In the second game, Joe Diskin would give the Pacers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first by stealing home. Then, with two outs in the opening frame, David Lewis (Scranton, PA) would expand the Pacers' lead four with a bases loaded triple to the right-center gap. Joe Diskin would then pick up an RBI single in the second, scoring Dan Downton (Starruca, PA) who had tripled to start the inning.

Down seven entering the top of the third, the Crimson Eagles would get to within four by plating three unearned runs. After a fielding error extended the inning for the visitors, PBU got RBI singles from Bramble and Rudy Sheptock and an RBI triple from Sundholm to make it a 7-3 game.

Downton would pick up his second RBI in as many innings as the freshman catcher scored Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) from third with a single to left. Bugno had reached third with shot to the right-center field fence to open the inning for Marywood. Mike Castellano (Parsippany, NJ) would put Marywood up 11-3 in the fifth with bases loaded double to left. A RBI single from Joe Valvano (Katonah, NY) would then score Castellano from second and up Marywood up nine.

After walking in his first two plate appearances and grounding back to the pitcher to start the nightcap, Newcomb waited for what would be the last at-bat of his collegiate career to get the record and pick up his 58th hit of the season with a single to left in fifth inning.

Stefano Curto (Coopersburg, PA) got the win on the mound for Marywood after striking out eight and not allowing an earned run. Curto pitched a complete game to get his first win of the year. Senior Pat Diskin finished the nightcap 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Diskin had identical numbers in the opener to enjoy a stellar last day at the plate.

In between games, the coaching staff and the Pacers' fans honored Marywood's three seniors: Pat Diskin, Korey Evans and Matt Newcomb.
