King's Nabs Win in Women's Tennis Opener

Scranton, PA - King's College took two close doubles matches then won four of six singles matches as the visiting Monarchs downed host Marywood University 7-2 in the season opener of both teams Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action.

The King's one-doubles team of Diana Darby and Jillian Tallarico squeaked out a 9-7 win over Marywood's Lindsay Burke (Yorktown, NY) and Ashley Karli (Blandon, PA). Then, in two-doubles, King's again took a close match 8-6 when Lauren Breen and Christy Rossowski topped the Pacers' team of Jessica Brogna (Pittston, PA) and Kara Hoff (Montoursville, PA). King's would grab a 3-0 lead before singles action with an easy 8-1 in at three-doubles.

In singles play, Tallarico and Courtnay Wilson were victorious at one and two singles, respectively, for the Monarchs. Marywood got their two points on the day with wins from Burke and Beth Schneider (Port Jervis, NY) at three and four singles, respectively. King's closed with wins at five and six singles for the 7-2 win.

Marywood returns to action with a pair of non-conference away matches this weekend. On Saturday, the Pacers will travel to face local rival Misericordia University at 1:00 pm and follow with a trip to Newburgh, New York to take on the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College at 1:00 pm.
