The Marywood defense had 13 saves against King's Saturday, including 11 by goalie Jamie Bowman (orange) King’s Topples Marywood, 5-1 Field Hockey - 9/12/2009 7:05:32 PM Box Score Scranton, PA – King's College took control with a three goal first half and never looked back as the visiting Monarchs topped host Marywood University 5-1 in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon in Scranton. With the win King's improves to 3-1 on the year while the Pacers suffered their second straight defeat and fall to 1-2. After a scoreless opening twelve minutes, Shelby Trenge put the Monarchs on the board after a nice give and go with teammate Jenera Quinones following a King's penalty corner. Just under ten minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead when Quinones added a goal of her own by finishing a pass from Heather Kozimor. With just over seven and a half minutes left in the opening period, King's expanded their lead to 3-0 with a close-range goal from Danielle Terracciano off another assist from Kozimor. With just over twenty five minutes gone in the second half, King's went up 4-0 when Jackie Sikora scored with an assist from Shawna Walp. The Monarch's then went up 5-0 less than two minutes later when Stefanie Wingerter scored on a penalty stroke. Marywood's Emily Wentzel (East Earl, PA) spoiled the Monarch's bid for a shut-out as she scored on a Morgan Walsh assist with under two minutes remaining. The Monarch's controlled much of the play on the day, out-shooting the hosts by a 28-4 margin. Freshman net-minder Jamie Bowman made 11 saves on the day for Marywood, while three King's keepers combined for one save. Marywood returns to action next Saturday when they travel to nearby Wilkes University for a non-conference match-up. Game time between the Pacers and Colonels is set for 12:00 pm in Edwardsville.
