Marywood Drops Pair of Five-Set Matches

Scranton, PA – Marywood University's volleyball team dropped 3-2 decisions to SUNY-IT and Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon to finish in fourth place at this weekend's University of Scranton Tournament. The Pacers' Arielle Cassidy was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend with 69 digs to lead Marywood.

In Saturday's opener versus SUNY-IT, the Pacers won the first set 25-22 before dropping the second set by an identical score. Marywood claim the third set 25-23 before SUNY-IT rallied for a 25-17 decision in the fourth set and a 15-9 victory in the decisive final frame.

Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, NJ) led Marywood with 11 kills, while Riona Corr (Sommersworth, NH) contributed 30 assists with Cassidy (Garwood, NJ) leading the squad with 19 digs.

Marywood would jump out to a 2-0 advantage in Saturday's second match against Wilkes' with wins of 28-26 and 25-21, but the Colonels responded with a 25-6 victory in the third set and a 25-21 decision in the fourth set to force the decisive fifth set which they claimed by a 15-9 score.

Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) led Marywood with 11 kills while Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) and Borden added 10 kills apiece. Corr had a team-best 33 helpers while Cassidy again led the Pacers with 24 digs.

Marywood, now 2-7 on the season, will return to action this Tuesday when they host Mt. St. Mary College in a non-conference tilt scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena
