Wilkes Uses Strong Second Half to Pull Away From Pacers

Edwardsville, PA – Wilkes University scored three second half goals to break open their 1-0 halftime lead and notch a 4-0 victory over Marywood University in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon. The Colonels boost their record to a perfect 6-0 while the Pacers see their record drop to 1-3.

In the first half both teams put solid defensive performances, allowing no goals until the 30th minute of play. With just over five minutes remaining in the opening period, the Wilkes' Amanda Tilley set up Cassie DiSabatino for the game's first goal to give the Colonels a 1-0 going into the break.

In the 47th DiSabatino assisted a Jennifer Keegan goal and only seven minutes later DiSabatino found sister Jenna DiSabatino for her fifth goal of the season, putting Wilkes up 3-0.  

The Colonels, who allowed only one shot in the second half, would add one more goal when Jenna DiSabatino centered a pass to Chelsea Minix who scored her second goal of the season to cap the scoring.

Wilkes held a commanding 26-3 advantage in shots for the game and had 20 penalty corners compared to just two for the Pacers.

Marywood goalie Jamie Bowman (Cheshire, CT) made five saves in the Pacers cage.

The Pacers will return to action on Monday when the travel to Center Valley, PA to take on DeSales University in a non-conference game scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
