Williamsport, PA – Lisa Hanselman scored just 31 seconds into overtime to lift Marywood University to a thrilling 2-1 victory over host Lycoming College in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers evened their record at 2-2 on the season with the win while the Warriors fall to 2-4-1.
Lycoming took a 1-0 lead at the seven-minute mark of of Saturday's game when Victoria Michael headed home a feed from Kelly Prendergast.
In the 33rd minute, Marywood's Olivia Habicht (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) knotted the game at 1-1 with the first goal of her collegiate career on a brilliantly executed free kick. After Marywood was awarded a direct kick at the corner of the Warriors 18-yard box, Habich laced the direct kick just inside the far post for the equalizer.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half and the Pacers headed to overtime for the second time in their last three contests.
Marywood would only need 31 seconds to end the game however. Siobhan Blancaflor (Haddam, CT) settled a long ball played to the corner and drove a cross into the Warriors penalty box that Lisa Gavin (Woodbury Heights, NJ) flicked on to Hanselman (Manheim, PA) who finished with a one-time shot to the far post to give the Pacers their second consecutive win.
The Pacers picked up the win despite being out-shot 16-9 for the game. Marywood, who got five saves from goalkeeper Meghan Coyle (Endicott, NY) finished the game with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Marywood opens conference play on Tuesday when they visit Philadelphia Biblical University for a Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Langhorne, PA.
