Clarks Summit, PA – Marywood University's women's basketball team snapped a brief, two-game losing streak with a decisive 82-44 win over Baptist Bible College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action Monday night. The Pacers improve to 8-2 overall with the win including a perfect 3-0 mark in CSAC play while the Defenders see their record slip to 2-7 on the year and 0-3 in the conference.
The two teams traded buckets over the first three minutes of Monday evening's game with Baptist Bible taking an early 7-6 lead on a three-pointer by Laurie Plante with 17:14 to play in the opening half. However, it would be the only time the host Defenders would lead on the evening as a Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) lay-up 19 seconds later would put the Pacers in front to stay. The game would remain tight until midway through the period when the Pacers used a 7-0 run capped by an Amanda Lippincott (Doylestown, PA) that put Marywood up 23-13 with 9:46 remaining in the half.
Marywood would stretch their lead to as many as 20 points in the first half and went into the locker room with 43-27 lead after shooting 51.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 11 of 14 free throw attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
Baptist Bible battled to narrow their deficit early in the second half, cutting Marywood's advantage to 14 points, but a 16-6 run by the Pacers silenced any hope of a Defenders' comeback as the Pacers build a 69-39 lead with just over eight minutes to play.
Marywood finished the game shooting 51.8 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from three-point range, and 76 percent from the charity stripe while limiting Baptist Bible to just 28.6 percent from the floor. The Defenders converted just two of 14 attempts from beyond the arc for the game.
Green led three Marywood players in double figures after finishing the night with 13 points and six rebounds. Lauren Rogan (Archbald, PA) netted 11 points while Jill Flanagan (Monroe, NY) contributed 10 points for the Pacers.
Baptist Bible's Joy DeLeonardis scored a game-high 15 points in a losing effort while Plante added nine points for the Defenders.
Marywood will visit Nyack College for a non-conference game on Thursday evening for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off against the Warriors.
