Allentown, PA – Marywood University's Amanda Lass and Cedar Crest College's Kelly Oakes each scored the 1,000th points of their respective careers in Thursday evening's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up, but Lass and the Pacers came away with a 76-53 win on the road. With the victory, Marywood improves to 10-3 on the season and 5-0 in conference play while the Falcons fall 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the CSAC.
Cedar Crest would take a quick 5-0 lead over the first three minutes of Thursday evening's game, but Marywood responded with a 23-4 run to build a 14-point lead with 10:35 to play in the opening half, a lead they would stretch to 45-25 going into halftime. The Pacers shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the opening half and were led by Mariah Schaeffer's (Bainbridge, NY) 12 points. Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) added 10 points in the first half for the Pacers.
The Falcons opened the second half with a 9-0 run to cut their deficit to 11 points with 17 minutes to play, but Marywood would outscore the hosts 19-4 over the next eight minutes of play to put the game out of reach. Lass (Brackney, PA) scored 10 of Marywood's points, including the 1,000th of her career which came on a lay-up with 11:51 left to play.
Lass is the ninth Marywood player to reach the 1,000 point club and first since Stephanie Dolinak accomplished the feat in 2005. The senior center now has 1,008 points for her career and is four points shy of moving past Dolinak into eighth place on the Pacers' all-time scoring list.
Lass celebrated her milestone night in a big way, finishing with a double-double after tying for a game-high with 18 points after shooting 8 of 10 from the floor and converting both of her free throw attempts. The senior also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Schaeffer also finished with 18 points, while Green and Lauren Rogan (Archbald, PA) ended the night with 12. Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) was the fifth Pacer in double-figures after tallying 11 points on the evening.
Oakes, who picked up her 1,000th career point on a lay-up with 3:49 to play, led Cedar Crest with 13 points. Lizzy Sunderhaus and Lakeema Jones each had 11 for the Falcons.
Marywood, who has now won at least 10 games in four consecutive seasons, will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Rosemont College at 1:00 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
