Hackettstown, NJ – Centenary College topped Marywood University 82-76 in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference game Monday evening, dealing the Pacers their first loss in conference play this season. The Cyclones moved into first place in the CSAC North Division with the victory while improving their record to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while Marywood sees their record drop to 11-4 (5-1 CSAC).
Centenary built a seven-point halftime lead, 41-34, after shooting 38.5 percent from the floor including four three-pointers. The Pacers shot 39.2 percent from the field in the opening twenty minutes and battled through the second half, cutting their deficit to four points in the closing minutes, but were unable to come any closer as the Cyclones pulled out the six-point win.
Centenary's Kristen Camuso scored a game-high 28 points after shooting 9 of 19 from the field and going 8 for 9 from the free throw line. Brittany Taylor added 21 points for Centenary while Jen Vasta was the third Centenary in double-figures with 17 points. Marissa DiStasio had team-high 15 rebounds for Centenary, who finished the evening with a 48-39 advantage on the glass.
Marywood's Mariah Schaffer (Bainbridge, NY) poured in a career-high 27 points after shooting 11 of 14 from the floor and going perfect from beyond the arc (1-1) and from the free throw line (4-4), but it was not enough for the Pacers, who shot 39.1 percent from the floor for the game. Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA), who was named to the CSAC Player of the Week Honor Roll earlier in the day, recorded her second double-double in the last three games after finishing with 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) was the third Pacer in double-figures after connecting for 14 points in the loss.
Marywood returns to action on Thursday evening when they host local rival Keystone College in a CSAC match-up scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena, where the Pacers are a perfect 7-0 on the season.
