Women's Tennis Clinches Third Seed, Beats Neumann 6-3

Aston, PA - Marywood University downed host Neumann University 6-3 in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon in Aston.  Marywood, who is 11-2 overall, clinched the third seed for the upcoming playoffs by finishing the regular season with a 8-2 conference mark.  Neumann stands at 5-7, 4-5 CSAC after the loss.

After falling at one-doubles, Kara Hoff (Montoursville, PA) and Melissa Hudock (Pitman, NJ) got the Pacers on the winning track with an 8-2 win at two-doubles.  Lindsay Burke (Yorktown, NY) and Beth Schneider (Port Jervis, NY) remained unbeaten as a pair on the year with an 8-1 win at 3-doubles.  Burke and Schneider, who are 11-0 overall as a team, went 7-0 at 3-doubles and went 8-0 in CSAC play when partnered together.

In singles, Marywood dropped the one and two singles matches.  Neumann's Japser Thomson beat Hoff 6-1, 6-1 before Michelle Steward beat Schneider 6-4, 6-4 at two-singles.  From there, however, Marywood won out to seal the match.  Hudock was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Gabrielle Porcelli.  Erika Von Zup (Tannersville, PA) closed out an unbeaten freshman regular season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at four-singles for Marywood.  Von Zup, 10-0 on the year, was 6-0 at five-singles and 3-0 at four-singles. 

Burke improved to 11-1 on the year with a 6-1, 6-3 win at five-singles and Kristin Guba (Latham, NY) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at six-singles for the Pacers. 

Marywood will take on Cabrini College, the #2 seed, next Friday at the West End Club in Allentown.  The match between the Pacers and Cavaliers will follow the match between top-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy and their fourth seeded opponent, who has not yet been determined.  The 1-4 match starts at 1:00 pm.
