Box Score
Scranton, PA – Marywood University improved to a perfect 6-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 win over Baptist Bible College in men's soccer action on Tuesday night. The Pacers, winners of seven consecutive matches, are now 12-3 on the season and have tied the school record for wins in a season set in 2008. The victory also gave coach Dawson Driscoll his 100th career coaching victory.
Marywood opened the scoring just 4:07 into Tuesday's contest. Senior Greg Dustin (Shrewsbury, MA) played a thru-ball that freshman Christian Lawlor (Hillsdale, NJ) ran onto and slotted home the breakaway opportunity to give the Pacers the early lead. Junior Brett Megee, who was named the ECAC South Region Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, doubled the hosts' lead just over two and a half minutes before halftime by blasting home a rebound opportunity for his ninth goal of the season, tying him with Lawlor for the team lead. Megee has now scored a goal in four consecutive matches and has 14 points in the team's last six games.
Sophomore Brandon Ritter (Wantage, NJ) closed out the scoring in the 79th minute of play. Sean O'Day (Edwardsville, PA) took a long throw-in that skipped across the box where Ritter ran onto it and buried the close-range chance.
Marywood held a commanding 24-8 advantage in shots for the game and had eight corner kicks to just one for the Defenders. Sophomore goalkeeper Shane Quinn (Clarks Summit, PA) made six saves to earn his fifth solo shutout of the season, tying a program record. The Pacers have now recorded eight clean sheets on the year.
Baptist Bible, now 4-11 on the season and 2-5 in CSAC play, got eight saves from Ian McGovern, who made a number of outstanding saves to keep the Defenders in the contest.
Marywood returns to action when they take on Neumann University in a crucial CSAC battle that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Aston, PA. The Pacers and Knights are tied for first place in the conference standings.
