Scranton, PA – Leading 1-0 at halftime of Wednesday night's non-conference women's soccer game, Marywood University scored five second half goals to claim a 6-0 win over King's College in the Pacers' regular season finale. With the victory, the Pacers head into the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs with a 13-4-1 record.
Emma Nye (Keene, NY) opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the contest for Marywood after beating a defender at the top of Monarch's 18-yard box and firing a shot past King's goalkeeper Katie Mangan at the near post. Nye's tally was the only marker of the first half, despite the Pacers owning a 12-1 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Marywood would break the game open with a pair of goals separated by just 25 seconds early in the second half. Siobhan Blancaflor (Haddam, CT) won the ball off a King's defender in the penalty area before ripping home a shot from eight yards out in the 48th minute of play. Erin Jones (Vestal, NY) extended the Pacers' lead to 3-0 just 25 seconds later by converting a breakaway chance on a thru-ball from Jessica Cosentino (Port Jefferson Station, NY).
Blancaflor stretched the host's lead to four with her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute by finishing off a pretty passing play in which Nye and defender Shannon Hresko (Gibbstown, NJ) were credited with assists. Fifteen minutes later, Blancaflor played a thru-ball to Jones, which the freshman unselfishly laid across the goalmouth to Nye, who scored into the empty net in the 67th minute.
Blancaflor completed her hat-trick in the 69th minute by beating two Monarch defenders before firing a shot past Mangan to close out the scoring.
Marywood goalkeeper Meghan Coyle (Endicott, NY) made one save to extend her season record for shutouts to 11 as the Pacers recorded their 12 clean sheet of the year. The Pacers held a commanding 21-1 edge in shots for the game and forced Mangan to make four saves in the net for King's.
Marywood, the number two seed in this year's CSAC postseason, will host a semifinal match next Wednesday against the lowest remaining seed from the Monday's first round match-ups at 2:00 p.m. in Scranton.
