Dallas, PA – Marywood University's field hockey team closed out their regular season with a 4-0 loss at Misericordia University on Thursday afternoon in non-conference play. The Cougars improve to 8-9 on the season with the victory while the Pacers end the regular season with a 3-12 record.
Misericordia took a 1-0 lead 6:42 into Thursday's contest, as Kelly Pelcher scored off an assist from Samantha Sorokas. Marywood goalie Jamie Bowman (Cheshire, CT) limited the Cougars' advantage to just one-goal at halftime by making 10 first half saves as the hosts out-shot the Pacers 16-0 in the first 35 minutes of play.
Misericordia doubled their lead just 4:13 into the second half following a penalty corner where Kelsey DeBruyne set up Amanda Blank for her third goal of the season. Jen Lozier extended the Cougars' advantage to 3-0 with just under nine and a half minutes to play by sneaking a shot inside the right post after taking a pass from Jenny Perucca. Lozier netted her second goal of the contest with 1:04 to play by finding the back of the cage with Gianna Handza earning an assist on the play.
Grace Riker played the first half in Misericordia's net without making a save to pick up the win while Haley Brandt made one stop for the Cougars in the second half to preserve the shutout. Bowman finished the afternoon with 14 saves as the Pacers were out-shot 26-2 for the game.
Marywood, the sixth seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs, will take on third seed Keystone College in the first round of the CSAC playoffs on Saturday. The Giants, who edge the Pacers 1-0 on October 13th, will host the game, scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., at the Riverfront Sports Complex in Scranton.
