Pacers Sweep Defenders for Key CSAC Victory

Scranton, PA – Marywood University took a big step toward clinching their second straight Colonial States Athletic Conference playoff berth with a 3-0 victory over local rival Baptist Bible College in volleyball action on Thursday evening. The Pacers improve their overall record to 14-8 and 7-3 in the CSAC with the win while the Defenders fall to 16-10 on the season and 8-2 in conference play.

Marywood took the first set by a 25-17 margin, won the second game 25-14, and completed the sweep with a 25-22 decision in the third set of the Dig Pink match played to raise awareness and money in the battle against breast cancer.  Victors both on and off the court Thursday night, the team raised more than $400  for the Dig Pink cause.

The Pacers attack was led by Emily Fillman (Clarion, PA) who had nine kills while Megan Schilling (Ringtown, PA) and Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) each added seven kills. Alyssa Hartranft (Mountain Top, PA) dished out a team-high 20 assists while Rachel Tollett (Elkins Park, PA) recorded a game-high 24 digs and three service aces. Fillman and Hartranft added nine digs apiece for Marywood.

Baptist Bible had Marlie Kneifel register nine kills and also got six from Jessica White. Katelin Broughton led all players with 23 assists while Laura Hodupp collected a team-best 18 digs for the Defenders.

Marywood closes out their regular season on Saturday with a home match against Immaculata University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
