Scranton, PA – Marywood University got first half goals from Ambers Stevens and Dana Sweeney and held off a second half comeback attempt by visiting Cedar Crest College to pick up a 2-1 win in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action on Tuesday afternoon. The Pacers leveled their CSAC record at 2-2 with the victory while improving to 3-7 overall.
Marywood took a 1-0 lead at the 7:27 mark when Amber Stevens (Cleona, PA) scored off a rebound after Cedar Crest goalie Lindsay Harrison denied shots by Brittany Beaton (Fleetwood, PA) and Julie Dougherty (Wading River, NY). The Pacers doubled their lead at 12:54 mark when Dana Sweeney (Branchville, NJ) scored unassisted following a penalty corner for the hosts. Marywood took the two-goal lead into halftime after out-shooting the Falcons 9-0 in the first 35 minutes of play.
Cedar Crest held the better of the play in the second half, holding a 9-5 advantage in shots for the period. The Falcons cut their deficit to 2-1 when Jessica Macko scored unassisted with 53 seconds left, but the Pacers held on to level their conference record.
Marywood finished the afternoon with a 14-9 advantage in shots for the game and a 16-5 edge in penalty corners.
Pacers goalie Erin Dawson (Jenkintown, PA) finished the game with six save to pick up the win while Harrison made seven stops for Cedar Crest, who fell to 2-10 on the year and 0-4 in the CSAC.
Marywood will be in action on Saturday when they travel to Langhorne, PA to take on Rosemont College in a CSAC game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
