Reading, PA – Penn State Berks overcame a two games to one deficit and edged Marywood University 3-2 in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday evening. With the victory, the Lions improve to 14-3 while the Pacers see their record slip to 8-5. Emily Fillman had 19 kills to lead Marywood in a losing effort.
The Pacers took the early lead with a 25-17 win in the first came. Marywood would hold a two games to one lead with a 25-21 decision in game three after dropping the second one by a 25-15 score. Penn State Berks leveled the contest at two games apiece with a 25-23 win in game four before completing the comeback with a tight 19-17 decision in the decisive fifth game.
The Lions attack was led by Amy Shelton who recorded a match-high 21 kills. Rachel Sweeney added 12 kills and Suzi Shelton contributed 11 for Penn State Berks. Glenda Ngo had 47 assists and Jerica Detsch contributed 19 digs for the victors.
Marywood was paced by Fillman's (Clarion, PA) 19 kills and the junior added 25 digs on the evening. Ashley Cavellier (Homer, NY) contributed 12 kills and Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) added 10 of her own. Leanna Feeney dished out a team-best 42 assists while Rachel Tollett (Elkins Park, PA) led the Pacers with 28 digs.
Marywood will host a Colonial States Athletic Conference quad match. The Pacers will take on Cabrini College at 10 a.m., Rosemont College at noon, and Keystone College at 2 p.m.
