Marywood Falls in CSAC Semi to Top Seed Cabrini

Radnor, PA - The No. 1 seed Cabrini volleyball team has advanced to the championship match of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament for the third straight season following a 3-0 win versus No. 4 seed Marywood University on Tuesday night at Nerney Field House.

Freshman setter Alaina Clark posted her 12th double-double of the season for the Cavaliers in the victory, pairing a match-best 34 assists with 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Sophia Sokolovich notched 11 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double in 2010.

Sophomore opposite Megan Ryan complimented Sokolovich on the offensive end, recording 10 kills and contributing eight digs. Junior outside hitter Alexis Doss buried eight kills and senior middle hitter Stephanie Recklau chipped in seven.

Freshman defensive specialist Kristy Riley spear-headed the Blue & White defense with a club-best 14 digs. Junior libero Courtney Abel tallied 12 digs.  Abel and Recklau were honored prior to the match's opening set for recording their 1,000th career dig and 1,000th career kill, respectively, during the regular season.

Cabrini jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a 25-19 win in the first set. Doss led the Cavaliers' charge in game one with four kills, while Clark served up nine helpers.  The Blue & White separated itself from the Pacers with a 25-15 victory in the second frame. Cabrini posted 16 kills as a team on 45 tries in the second set.

The Cavaliers clinched the win with a 25-23 win in the third stanza. Freshman middle hitter Michele Fitz tallied three total blocks in the final game and six for the match overall.

Junior Emily Fillman led Marywood with a team-best 10 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore setter Alyssa Hartranft recorded 18 assists.

Marywood (16-9) will now await word on a possible ECAC tournament berth. Cabrini (22-7) will meet No. 2 seed Baptist Bible College in the CSAC Final on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Nerney Field House. Match time is to be determined.
