Scranton, PA – Katie Paterson continued her solid freshman season by winning two events, but Marywood University dropped a 112-68 decision to the University of Scranton on Wednesday evening in the first-ever meeting between the local rivals. The Royals improve to 5-2 on the season with the victory while the Pacers see their record fall to 1-7.
Paterson (Clarks Summit, PA) picked up wins for Marywood in both the 1000 yard freestyle and 1000 yard freestyle. The freshman won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 11:06.89 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:30.69.
The Pacers had four swimmers record runner-up finishes on the evening. Vanessa Szilangy (Bloomsburg, PA) placed second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:15.33 while Alyssa Desiderio (Warrington, PA) came home second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 29.37. Amy Mikolaichik (Harding, PA) recorded a time of 28.01 in the 200 yard IM to finish second while Diana Young (Federalsburg, MD) was the runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke after finishing in 1:31.31.
Marywood returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Frederick, MD to take on Hood College in a meet scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
