Scranton, PA - Lauren Rogan scored a team-high 16 points and Brittany Mang added 15 after shooting a perfect 7-7 from the floor to lead Marywood University to a 81-28 victory over the College of Notre Dame in Colonial State Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers, who held the Gators to just six field goals in the game, won their fifth-straight contest to improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
Marywood jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the first 4:36 of Saturday's game led by eight points by Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ). The Pacers' defense limited the College of Notre Dame to just one field goal in the first 10 minutes of the game to help the hosts sport a 29-3 advantage midway through the opening period.
Marywood held a commanding, 48-13 halftime lead after shooting 58.1 percent from the field in the opening half including a 3-4 effort from three-point range. Brittany Mang (Carbondale, PA) had 13 points to lead all scorers in the first half as the Pacers limited the Gators to just 3-23 shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play.
Marywood got points from 10 different players in the second half to pull away with their fifth-straight win. Rogan (Archbald, PA) led the Pacers with 16 points on 4-7 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Mang converted all seven of her field goal attempts for 15 points while Thorsen and Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) each finished with 10 points in the win. Jillian Flanagan (Monroe, NY) tied for a game-high with seven rebounds as the Pacers dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Gators 47-25.
The College of Notre Dame's India Scott led all scorers with 19 points. Scott shot an impressive 12-14 from the free throw line for the Gators, who got seven rebounds from Cory Santos in the loss. Notre Dame fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in the CSAC with the defeat.
Marywood returns to action on Monday evening when they travel to Aston, PA to take on Neumann College in a CSAC contest scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
