Radnor, PA – Cabrini College used an 18-4 run late in the second half to break open a tight game and pick up a 70-56 win over Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 14-9 on the season and 10-3 in conference play while the Pacers fall to 15-6 on the season and 10-3 in the CSAC.
Cabrini would lead for most of the first 10 minutes of Saturday's contest before Marywood leveled the score at 17-17 with 10:11 left in the half on an Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) lay-up and a three-pointer by Lauren Rogan (Archbald, PA) with 9:20 to play would put the Pacers up 20-17.
Marywood, who held a 30-28 halftime lead, was led by Lizzy Green's (Shenandoah, PA) 13 first half points. The Pacers, who got seven first half rebounds from Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ), shot 40 percent from the floor in the opening half while limited the Cavaliers to 34 percent from the field. Cabrini was paced by Deana DiAmico's 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
The two teams would trade the lead five times early in the second half. After Lass made a lay-up with 9:07 to play to cut the score to 48-47 in favor of Cabrini, the Cavaliers' Kasey Agostinacchio hit a three-pointer which ignited an 18-4 run by the hosts, giving Cabrini a comfortable 66-51 lead with 1:47 to play.
DiAmicole all scorers with 23 points for the Cavaliers, who shot 43.9 percent from the floor including 45 percent from three-point range. Kate Walck added 14 points for the Cavaliers, who got 11 point from both Agostinacchio and Alyssa Brady.
Green, Thorsen, and Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) each scored 13 points to lead Marywood. Lass finished the game with 10 points and moved into seventh place on Marywood's all-time scoring list, moving ahead of Natasha Pashchuk, who finished her career in 2004 with 1,077 points. Lass now has 1,082 points in her career. Marywood shot 38.6 percent from the floor for the game, 20 percent from three-point land, and 60 percent from the free throw line.
Marywood will return to action on Monday when they host Cedar Crest College in a CSAC match-up scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The contest also is a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Pink Zone" game. The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Additionally, Marywood will honor their three seniors, Elizabeth Green, Erin Furlong and Amanda Lass. Coach Tara Macciocco would like to invite all women's basketball alumni to attend this game and participate in the WBCA Pink Zone challenge.
