Marywood Tops Centenary in Key CSAC North Battle

Scranton, PA – Marywood University avenged an earlier loss to Centenary College with a 69-58 win over the Cyclones in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference battle Thursday evening. The Pacers improve their record to 14-6 overall and lead the CSAC North Division with an 8-2 conference mark. Centenary sees their record slide to 11-9 on the season and 8-4 in conference play.

The two teams traded the lead five times over the first 11 minutes of Thursday night's contest. After Centenary took a 22-18 lead on a Jasmine Rosa lay-up with 9:02 to play, Marywood closed the half with an 11-2 run to take a 29-24 lead into halftime.

 The Pacers, who shot 36.4 percent from the floor in the opening half, were led by Marielle Thorsen's (Belvidere, NJ) seven points and Lizzy Green's (Shenandoah, PA) eight rebounds.

Centenary, who shot 25.8 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play, were led by Marissa DiStatio's seven points. DiStatio also had 11 first half rebounds for the Cyclones, who connect on just seven of their 17 attempts from the free throw line in the period.

Marywood would extend their lead for much of the first 10 minutes of the second half, and led by 16 points with 8:08 to play after Maggie Farrell (Telford, PA) knocked down a pair of free throws to make the score 53-37. Centenary was able to cut their deficit to 61-54 with 3:09 to play, but would not come any closer.

The Pacers, now a perfect 10-0 at home this season, was led by Lauren Rogan's (Archbald, PA) game-high 19 points. Thorsen added 11 points and Stephanie Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) contributed 10 for Marywood, who shot 44.8 percent from the floor for the game including 33.3 percent from three point range. Green had a team-high nine rebounds.

Centenary was paced by Kristen Camuso's 15-point effort. DiStasio finished with a double-double on 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while Jen Vasta added 11 for the Cyclones, who shot 35.1 percent from the floor and 47.2 percent from the charity stripe.

Marywood will be back in action this Saturday afternoon when they host conference opponent Philadelphia Biblical University.  Tip-off between the Pacers and Crimson Eagles is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
