Edwardsville, PA – Senior captain Ryan Cusomato was 3-for-3 at the plate and junior Joe Diskin drove in four runs on the day but Marywood University had their two-game winning streak snapped as host Wilkes University topped the visiting Pacers 16-8 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon in Edwardsville.  Matt Ruch drove in five runs on the day and finished just a double shy of hitting for the cycle to lead Wilkes in the win, moving them to 3-3 on the year.  Marywood slips to 2-7 with the loss.

Cusomato (Sparta, NJ) started his strong day at the plate in the first inning of play with an RBI double to left field to put the Pacers up 1-0.  Marywood would double their lead before the end of the first after three consecutive walks forced Cusomato across the plate.  In the top of the third, Cusomato would extend Marywood's lead to 3-0.  The senior singled to start the inning for Marywood and would later score as Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) grounded out to short.

The Colonels would plate four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 8-3 lead before Marywood responded with a two-run sixth as Joe Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) had a two-run single to left.  Wilkes would score two runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth as Matt Ruch homered to left to put the Colonels back up, 10-5.

Diskin then picked up his third and fourth RBIs of the day with a two-run single in the seventh to bring Marywood back to within three, down 10-7.  However, Ruch would put Wilkes up six, 13-7, on a three-run triple after Marywood walked the bases loaded, giving  him five RBIs on the day.  With Ruch on third, the Colonels would then load the bases again on another walk and hit batsman before adding three unearned runs on a fielding error to go up 16-7 and put the game out of reach.

Cleary would get an RBI single in the eighth to score Anthony Castellano from second after Castellano (Brooklyn, NY) had a pinch-hit double to start the inning for Marywood, but that would be the last run of the game for either team.  Cleary finished the day 1-3 with three RBI.

Marywood returns to action Friday with their first Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up against defending CSAC Champion and pre-season favorite Keystone College.  Friday's nine-inning affair is set to begin at 3:00 pm in LaPlume.
