Clermont, FL – Facing the toughest competition in Head Coach Bob Fitzsimmons' eight-year career and perhaps in Marywood softball history, Marywood University fell to 1-5 after dropping a 12-2 decision to Alma College Tuesday afternoon in Clermont, Florida.  Marywood, who earlier in the day fell to second-ranked Ohio Northern by a 3-1 score, managed just two runs against Alma (3-2) who received votes in the first National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) national poll.

After a tight first inning of play which saw the Scots take a 2-1 lead, Alma broke open the game with a six-run second.  After a double and an error, an RBI single opened the flood gates to several singles, including a two-run single from senior outfielder Kelsey Rightenburg.  Several batters later, Alma first-baseman hit a three-run inside the park homer to break the game open. The Scotts would add four more in the third to take a 12-1 lead.

Kaitlyn Jones (Madison Township, PA) fell to 1-2 on the year for the Pacers after 2.2 innings of work.  Jones gave up 12 runs on 13 hits and was relieved by Kaitlyn Brennan for the remainder of the game.  Brennan went 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out one.

Brennan (Taylor, PA) also produced one of Marywood's two runs on the day after going 1-2 with an RBI.  Talia Williams (Berwick, PA) went 2-3 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI.

Marywood will enjoy a day off before returning to action Thursday against Lycoming College.
