Aston, PA - Neumann University squeezed out a close 2-1 win in the opener and used two big innings to top Marywood 8-5 in the nightcap as the CSAC pre-season favorite Knights defeated Marywood University twice Saturday to claim two important early-season conference wins.  The wins move the Knights to 4-0 in conference play and 6-10 overall while Marywood falls to 2-10 and 0-2 in CSAC action.

In the opener, Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) pitched a complete game for Marywood, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three.  Unfortunately for Marywood, Brennan's counterpart, Neumann's Brittany Campbell, was equally impressive on the mound.  Campbell also had a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six.  Four Pacer managed a single hit on the day, while Lauren Stack was the lone Knight with multiple hits.

In the nightcap, Neumann plated three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take command and go on to an 8-5 win.  With the score tied 2-2 after four and a half, Neumann took control by scoring six runs over the next two innings to ice the game.  Kaitlyn Jones (Madison Township, PA) took the loss for Marywood after allowing eight runs on ten hits while striking out two.  Rachel Purpuro got the win on the mound for Neumann after five innings of four-run ball.  Sarah McGann got the save after two innings of relief work.

Marywood returns to action Sunday at 1:00 pm when the Pacers host Misericordia University in a non-conference doubleheader.
