Scranton, PA - Marywood University shut out Misericordia University 3-0 in the opener but the Cougars responded with a 4-3 come-from-behind win in the nightcap as the two teams split a non-conference softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Scranton.  Misericordia moves to 5-3 after the split while Marywood now stands at 3-11.

In the opener, Marywood's Julie Dougherty got her first collegiate win on the mound after a complete-game, six hit shutout.  Dougherty (Wading River, NY) pitched all seven innings, striking out three not allowing any extra base hits.

Marywood took a 2-0 lead in the opener in the second inning and then added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) was 4-4 with two RBI while Janessa Bednash (Mayfield, PA) was 1-2 with the other RBI.  Lead-off hitter Courtney Novajosky (Noxen, PA) went 3-4 for Misericordia but was the lone Cougar with multiple hits.  Marywood's Shawna Sandy (Scranton, PA) was 3-3 with a double and two runs scored.  Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) also had a double for the Pacers.

In the nightcap, Brennan pitched solid for Marywood but fell to 0-6 on the year after the Cougars rallied for a 4-3 win.  Misericordia used two timely walks and two timely errors to plate all of their runs.  Trailing 3-2 entering the seventh, the Cougars would plate the winning runs on a wild pitch and error on back to back plays.

Karissa Kross (Exeter, PA) got the win for the Cougars after striking out six as part of her complete-game effort.  The freshman hurler allowed eight hits and was credited with just one earned run against her.  Brennan also pitched a complete-game for Marywood, her team-leading third of the year.  Brennan struck out two and allowed three earned runs.

Marywood returns to action Friday when they host Keystone College in a CSAC doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
