Scranton, PA - In a game that lasted nearly four hours and saw the two teams combine for 46 runs and 49 hits, Alvernia University topped host Marywood University 26-20 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon in Scranton. In the process, several Marywood University single-game records fell.  The Crusaders, who had build a 16-2 lead after three and a half innings, had to hold off the Pacers to improve to 11-4 on the year.  Marywood fell to 3-11 with the loss.

Alvernia would score in every inning but the eighth and plated 26 runs on 26 hits.  Both Jeff Smith and Reid Martin got seven at-bats during the game and each picked up four hits on the day, with Martin also collecting five RBI and five runs scored to lead the Crusader offense.

Marywood, meanwhile, set several program records in the loss, highlighted by Jeff Cleary's (Parsippany, NJ) four-hit day.  Cleary set a new program record with four singles on the day.  Teammates Ryan Cusomato (Sparta, NJ) and Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) also entered the record book after both were hit by pitches twice on the day.

The Pacers, who set a new record with 48 at-bats and collected the most hits in program history (23), found themselves down 14 after just 3.5 innings of play.  The Pacers responded with a six-run fourth and eventually chipped away at the Alvernia lead and would only trail 23-20 entering the 9th.  The Crusaders, however, would tack on three more in the top of the ninth before closing the door on Marywood's bats to secure the win.

Six different pitchers saw action for the Crusaders in the win with Brian Longo getting credit for the win.  Marywood used four pitchers of their own and Rick Clifford (Scranton, PA) took the loss.

Marywood will look to snap their two-game skid when they take on Philadelphia Biblical University Friday in Scranton.  The CSAC game will be a nine-inning affair and will start at 3:00 pm.
