Scranton, PA - Ashley Dommes went 6-for-7 on the day to lift Marywood University to an important sweep of Baptist Bible College in CSAC softball action Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  Dommes went 4-4 with three RBI in Marywood's 9-4 opening game win, then went 2-for-3 as the Pacers scored a late run to beat the Defenders 7-6 in the nightcap.  Marywood moves to 5-11 and 2-2 in the CSAC with the wins while BBC slips to 5-7 and 2-2 in conference play.

BBC led 2-0 in the opener before Marywood plated five runs over three innings to take a 5-2 lead.  The Defenders would trim the Marywood lead to 5-4 with the help of some walks and errors in the top of the sixth, but Marywood scored four times in the home half of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Marywood starting pitcher Talia Williams fanned nine batters on the day. Williams, who had seven strikouts in five previous appearances, got the win on the mound while Kaitlyn Jones (Madison Township, PA) picked up her second save after 1.1 innings of relief work.  Dommes (Scranton, PA) was 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored.  Scranton high product Shawna Sandy (Scranton, PA) went 3-4 with a triple and RBI while Williams (Berwick, PA) helped her own cause with a pair of doubles and an RBI as part of a 2-3 day at the plate.

Renee Korb took the loss on the mound for BBC in the opener despite a complete-game effort.  Katelin Broughton was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead BBC offensively.

In the nightcap, Marywood raced out to a 6-2 lead after the opening inning but the Defenders chipped away at the lead and would tie it with a two-run fourth.  Tied 6-6, Marywood got the winning run on a Kim Flanagan (Monroe, NY) ground-out to second.  Jones got the win on the mound after 2.1 innings of relief work as the struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to close the game.  Starter Julie Dougherty (Wading River, NY) allowed four earned runs (six total) in 4.2 innings of work.

Korb again took the loss on the mound in the nightcap despite only two innings of relief work.  Broughton started for BBC and went four full innings, allowing six runs on ten hits.  Stephanie Kreiser and Karin Mowry each went 3-4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Defenders.  Kreiser had a line-drive homer as well.

Marywood returns to action Sunday when they host Keystone College in a 12:00 pm CSAC doubleheader.
