Immaculata, PA - Jamie Beagen and William Roerden had three-points apiece and Marywood goalies combined to make 15 saves to lift the Pacers to a 9-6 win over Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening. Marywood, who notched their fourth-consecutive victory, improves to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in the CSAC while the Mighty Macs fall to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Immaculata struck just over a minute and a half into the game when Tom Hartney scored off a Dante Tuscai assist, but Roerden (Warwick, NY) equalized for Marywood by finding the net after taking a pass from Beagen (Patchogue, NY) at the 9:54 mark. Beagen would give the Pacers a 2-1 lead by scoring with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter off a feed from Anthony Tuscai (West Chester, PA)
Brendan Dineen leveled the score by tallying a goal for Immaculata just 1:13 into the second stanza before Chris Riley (Islip, NY) scored off Tuscai's second assist of the contest and Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) found the net off Beagan's second helper to give Marywood a 4-2 lead with 8:37 mark. Joe Keller would score unassisted for the Mighty Macs with 2:44 to play in the opening half and Marywood would hold a slim, 4-3 lead at the intermission.
Immaculata's John Cacchio tied the game at 4-apiece with a goal at the 12:18 mark of the third quarter before Roerden put Marywood back in front with an unassisted marker with 4:30 left in the period.
The Pacers scored three goals in the first 4:44 of the third period as George Downey IV (Palmyra, PA) scored just 36 seconds into the period and Gregory Nester (Morgantown, PA) followed with a pair of goals to give Marywood an 8-4 lead with 10:16 to play.
Keller's second goal of the contest cut the Mighty Macs deficit to 8-5 with 4:01 to play, but Joe LaBella (Allentown, PA) restored Marywood's four-goal cushion by scoring just 45 seconds later. Hartney a man-up goal for Immaculata with 1:32 to close out the scoring as Marywood claimed the 9-6 win.
Immaculata held a narrow 35-34 edge in shots for the game while Marywood won the groundball battle by a 36-33 margin. The Pacers won 13 of the game's 19 face-offs, led by Downey who went 10-14 on draws. Marywood's extra-man attack went1-3 while the Mighty Macs converted one of five man-up opportunities.
Jesse Habich (Broomall, PA), currently ranked third in the nation in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average, finished the game with 13 saves to pick up the win for the Pacers while Eric Luhrmann (Glens Falls, NY) made two key stops in 3:57 of action with Marywood a man-down twice in the four quarter. Immaculata's Andrew Sim took the loss despite turning aside 12 Pacer shots.
Marywood returns to action on April 7th when they host Montclair State University in a non-conference game scheduled to face-off at 7:00 p.m. in Scranton.
