Fort Pierce, FL - Sophomore pitcher Tim Freda pitched a complete-game three-hitter to lead Marywood University to their first win of 2010 in a 3-0 shutout of Northwestern (MN) College Friday evening in Florida.  The win snaps Marywood's six-game skid to start the season.  Northwestern, playing in the first game of their Florida trip, fell to 0-5 on the year.

Freda (Westbury, NY) had a stellar outing on the mound for Marywood, pitching a complete-game and allowing just three hits on the day.  The right-handed hurler struck out eight on the day while allowing just two singles and a double.

The game remained tight throughout, but Marywood was able to break the scoreless tie in the sixth.  David Lewis (Scranton, PA) led off with a walk, was moved over to second on a Ryan Cusomato (Sparta, NJ) sacrifice bunt and promptly stole third.  Fellow Scrantonian T.J. Czerw then hit a sacrifice fly to score Lewis from third for the eventual game-winning run.

Marywood got two insurance runs in the eighth to improve to 1-6 on the year.  As in the sixth, Lewis walked to open the inning.  Cusomato would ground out to third to advance Lewis to second and Czerw singled to move Lewis to third.  Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) then hit a sac-fly to score Lewis before Northwestern's pitcher, who only allowed four hits on the day, would walk three consecutive batters and give Czerw a free-pass to cross the plate.

Besides singles from Lewis and Czerw, freshman Nicholas Pasqualichio (Clarks Summit, PA) singled while Shane Miller (Scranton, PA) provided the Pacers' lone extra base hit on the day with a double.

Complete statistics and a box score will be available upon the team's return north.  Marywood closes out their spring break trip to Florida with a 9:00 am single game against Martin Luther College of Nebraska Saturday morning.
