Softball Powers Past Notre Dame for CSAC Sweep

Bel Air, MD - Marywood University pounded out 22 hits for 20 runs in the opener and then shutout host College of Notre Dame 12-0 in the nightcap as the Pacers improved to 8-4 in CSAC softball action with a pair of five-inning victories.  Marywood, who is now 11-13 overall, got wins from Talia Williams and Kaitlyn Brennan on the mound.  The Gators fell to 4-10 (3-9 CSAC) with the losses.

The Pacers would four hits from Kim Flanagan (Monroe, NY) in the opener as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead after one inning.  Marywood would add four in the third, five in the fourth and three in the fifth for the 20-3 win.  Flanagan finished 4-5 with a double and three RBI, while Marywood hit five doubles and four triples in the game.

Talia Williams (Berwick, PA) improved to 3-2 on the year with a five-inning complete game.  Williams struck out five and allowed three runs in the Gators' last at-bat.  Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) was 3-4 with a triple while Shawna Sandy (Scranton, PA) was 3-4 with five RBI, a double and a triple.

In the nightcap, Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) allowed just four hits to pick up the shutout and improved to 4-6 on the year in the process.  Brennan struck out six batters to claim her team-leading seventh complete-game of the year.  Lope was 2-4 with two RBI in the 12-0 win while Sandy again had a stellar game with a 3-4 effort.  Brittney Basalyga (Clarks Summit, PA) had a two-run pinch-hit triple for Marywood as well, and Ashley Dommes (Scranton, PA) connected on her team-leading third homer of the year, a two-run shot to center.

Marywood returns to action next Friday when they visit Cedar Crest College in Allentown for a 3:00 pm CSAC doubleheader.
