Scranton, PA - After falling to visiting Centenary College 12-1 in five innings in the opener Marywood University rallied for an 8-7 win in eight innings in the nightcap to salvage an important split with the Cyclones in CSAC softball action Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  Marywood moves to 12-14 overall and 9-5 in conference play while the Cyclones now stand at 18-10, 8-4 CSAC.

Centenary dominated the opener as Marywood was unable to touch Cyclone pitcher Kristin Durborow after the opening inning.  The Pacers would take an early 1-0 lead as Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) scored on a free pass after reaching on a walk, stealing second and moving to third on a passed ball.  That lead would be short lived, however, as the visitors plated five in the third thanks to a two run double from Kelly O'Dell and a three-run double from Cara Montferrat.

The Cyclones then doubled their run total in the fourth with five more, highlighted by a Danielle Dundas three-run double.  Durborow improved to 10-4 on the year after striking out 12 of the 22 batters she faced and allowing no earned runs on three hits.  Julie Dougherty (Wading River, NY) took the loss for Marywood after allowing five runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.

The nightcap looked like it may be more of the same as Montferrat hit a three-run homer to start the game and put the Cyclones up 3-0 after one half inning of play.  Marywood's bats awoke in the home half of the first, however, and the Pacers tied the game at 3-3 on a Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) RBI double and an Ashley Dommes (Scranton, PA) two-run double to center.

Marywood trailed 5-4 going into the sixth but would take a 6-5 lead on a Meghin Palmer (Greencastle, PA) RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Brennan.  The Cyclones responded immediately and would force extra innings when Sarah Olsen doubled to center to score Caitlin Veverka.

In the top of the eighth, Centenary would go up one as Brianne McManus tripled to start the inning and pinch-runner Jessica Fane scored on a Danielle Dundas double to left.

Marywood would answer in the bottom half of the eighth as Shawna Sandy (Scranton, PA) opened with a pinch-hit single and immediately scored on a Lope triple to right.  Lope would then score the winning run as Palmer grounded out to third but picked up the important RBI in the process.

Brennan got the win in the nightcap after pitching all eight innings.  Sarah Olsen took the loss for the Cyclones despite striking out nine.
