Selinsgrove, PA – Trailing by three goals early in the third quarter of Wednesday's non-conference game at Susquehanna University, Marywood University scored the final nine goals of the game to pick up an 11-5 win over the Crusaders, securing their second-straight 10-win season. With the win the Pacers improve to 10-3 on the season while the Susquehanna falls to 6-7.
Tim Pastore gave Susquehanna the early advantage on Wednesday, scoring just 1:17 into the contest. The Crusaders would hold a 2-0 lead after the first quarter of play John Horbert beat Marywood goalie Jesse Habich for an unassisted tally with 7:42 to play in the first stanza.
Marywood would rally to tie the score in the first 6:34 of the second quarter. Dustin Sturdevant (Binghamton, NY) got the Pacers on the board with an unassisted tally with 12:07 on the clock and William Roerden (Warwick, NY) scored with 8:26 to play to knot the game at 2-2. However, Susquehanna would respond with a pair of goals of their own as Tylere Fritts and Dustin Breakey each tallied to restore the host's two-goal cushion heading into halftime.
Breakey would then convert a feed from Luke Delavan just under five minutes into the third quarter to stretch the Crusaders' lead to 5-2, but Marywood responded with the next four goals to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth quarter. Gregory Nester (Morgantown, PA) got the rally started with an unassisted marker with 7:26 to play before Jamie Beagen (Patchogue, NY) assisted on goals by Roerden and Nester separated by just 33 seconds to level the game at five apiece. Chris Riley's (Islip, NY) goal with 2:53 to play gave Marywood their first lead of the game.
Nester would complete his hat-trick, and give Marywood a 7-5 lead, by scoring off a Roerden assist, just 59 seconds into the final 15 minutes of play. Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) scored off a feed from George Downey IV (Palmyra, PA) with 12:36 to play and Roerden completed his hat-trick just over two minutes later to stretch Marywood's advantage to 9-5. Downey would score with the Pacers a man-up off Beagen's third helper of the contest with 8:16 left to make the score 10-5.
Roerden scored his fourth goal of the contest on Beagen's fourth assist of the afternoon with 4:44 remaining, Marywood's ninth unanswered goal which would close out the scoring for the afternoon.
Marywood held a 35-22 advantage in shots for the game and won the groundball battle by a 33-26 margin.
Roerden led the Pacers with five points on four goals and one assist while Beagen had four assists and Nester finished with three goals to lead the Pacers attack. Habich (Broomall, PA) made nine saves to pick up his 10th win of the season for the Pacers.
Marywood will travel to Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday to take on Centenary College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up scheduled to face-off at 1:00 p.m.
