Aston, PA - The Neumann University baseball team swept of a pair of conference games from Marywood University Saturday afternoon. The Knights used a strong last inning at-bat in the opener to take a 11-10 win and then cruised to a 9-2 win in the nightcap. The losses drop the Pacers to 11-21 (6-9 CSAC) and now Marywood must win all three remaining CSAC games next weekend against Gwynedd-Mercy and hope for Centenary losses in order to qualify for post-season play.

The Knights scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the come-from-behind 11-10 win in game one. Brent Tamane hit the two-run single to complete the victory.
After Marywood opened the game with two runs in the top of the first inning, Neumann answered with three runs in the home half. The Pacers then plated three runs to take a 5-3 advantage after two innings. Marywood took advantage of a few Neumann errors to put four more runs on the board in the fourth inning. The Pacers added a run in the top of the seventh inning for a 10-4 lead.

Then the Knights comeback began. Neumann loaded the bases on walks to start the inning. All runners advanced on a wild pitch for the Knights first run of the inning. Matt Gallagher then hit a sacrifice fly to right field. With two outs, Neumann put together four straight base hits for three runs and found themselves down just one, 10-9.

With the bases loaded again after Tim Dougherty was hit by a pitch, Tamane won the game with a two-run single to score Dustin Kology and Bobby Callan.

George Hatton picked up his second win of the season, going 4.0 innings in relief. He allowed just one run, none earned, and struck out one. Ray Schmoltze started the game and went 3+ innings.

John Aber (Mount Upton, NY) took the loss on the mound, his first of the year, after allowing the final four earned runs of the game.  Marywood starter Tim Freda (Westbury, NY) struck out seven in six innings of work.

Joe Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) was 3-5 with two RBIs while Nicholas Pasqualichio (Clarks Summit, PA), Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) and David Lewis (Scranton, PA) all had doubles.

In game two, the Knights broke open the game with five runs in the fifth inning. Neumann opened the scoring with two unearned runs, one in the second and one in the third. The Pacers put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth. Neumann answered with two runs in the bottom half for a 4-2 lead.

The Knights plated five runs in the fifth inning the seal the win, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Mitchell.
Russell Gilliam went 6.0 innings for his fourth win of the season. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven. Joe Slater and Erik Klimoff pitched the seventh inning.

Marywood's Mike Siciliano (Whippany, NJ) took the loss on the mound while Ryan Cusomato (Sparta, NJ) and brothers Anthony and Matt Castellano (Brooklyn, NY) each had doubles.

If there is silver lining in the Pacers' playoff picture cloud, it is that Centenary must play league leading Keystone College in their final three-game series next Friday and Saturday.  If the Pacers can sweep GMC to move to 9-9 in league play and if Keystone sweeps Centenary then Marywood would finish one game ahead of the Cyclones for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Marywood will tune up for that important three-game set with GMC with a non-conference single game against Baptist Bible College on Monday.  First pitch is set for 4:00 pm in Scranton.
