Gwynedd Valley, PA - Gwynedd-Mercy and Marywood split a CSAC twinbill on Monday as the Griffins were able to end a five-game winless streak. Gwynedd-Mercy took game one, 13-5, but fell to the Pacers in the second, 7-2. Marywood moves to 7-13 overall and 4-4 in CSAC play while the Griffins move to 2-13 and 2-4 in the conference.
Gwynedd scored a season-high 13 runs including eight in the first inning. After the Pacers chipped away to an 8-4 score in the fifth, the Griffins plated five in the bottom of the frame to nail down the conference win.
Freshman Maggie McSpadden did it all for GMC in the opener, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases at the plate and picked up the win on the mound, scattering four runs on six hits in five innings of work.
Sophomore Danyelle Lemm also added two RBI's and scored twice as GMC took advantage of seven Pacer errors in the game. Shawna Sandy went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI's for Marywood.
Sandy (Scranton, PA) was a key factor in game two, hitting a pair of doubles and an RBI triple as the Pacers led 4-1 after three innings.
McSpadden had two of the team's five hits and scored a run in the seventh. The Griffins had the sacks full in their last-at bat down by five, but a liner to first ended any chance of a comeback.
Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) got the win on the mound in the nightcap after allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four.
Marywood returns to action on Friday when they host Philadelphia Biblical University at 3:00 pm.
