Gwynedd Valley, PA – Gwynedd-Mercy plated 44 combined runs in a two-game sweep of Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon to improve to 21-13 on the season and 12-5 in conference play. After winning the first game 19-6, the Griffins claimed the nightcap 25-7, dropping the Pacers to 11-23 overall and 6-11 in the CSAC.
With Marywood holding a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning, Gwynedd-Mercy used a six-run third inning to built a 7-4 lead. Limiting the Pacers to just one run the rest of the way, the Griffins put up a 10-spot in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Joe Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) had three of the Pacers' six hits in the opening game with an RBI. Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) hit a two-run home run in the loss. Tim Freda (Westbury, NY) took the loss on the hill for Marywood.
In the nightcap, the Pacers once again took an early lead, going up 2-0 after the top of the third after Ryan Cusomato (Sparta, NJ) doubled to score Diskin in the first and Diskin scoring again in the third on a Gwynedd-Mercy throwing error. However, in the home half of the third, the Griffins would score 14 runs to built a commanding 14-2 lead and never looked back as the hosts' clinched the second seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.
Diskin was the only Pacer with multiple hits again in the second game of the twin-bill while T.J. Czerw (Scranton, PA) and Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) each drove in a pair of runs. Mike Siciliano (Whippany, NJ) took the loss Marywood.
The Pacers will close out their 2010 campaign tomorrow afternoon when they close out their series with Gwynedd-Mercy at 11:45 as the Pacers will honor their six seniors on Senior Day.
