Scranton, PA - Senior Jeff Cleary pitched a complete game but Gwynedd-Mercy College used two two-run homers to escape Scranton with a 6-3 win over the host Pacers Sunday afternoon.  The Griffins improved to 22-13 (13-5 CSAC) and have wrapped up the second seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs while Marywood's season comes to a close at 11-24 (6-12 CSAC).

GMC jumped on the board in the top of the first when Austin Lay hit a two-run homer to right center after Art Hirsch doubled for the Griffins.  The Griffins would add one in the third when Hirsch tripled to start the inning and Ley picked up a sacrifice RBI with a deep fly-out to left.

Marywood responded in the bottom half of the inning when David Lewis (Scranton, PA) picked up a hustle double down the right field line.  Lewis would then advance to third on a routine ground out and would come home on a wild pitch.

The Pacers rallied in the fifth as their bats came alive.  Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) singled to left and moved to second on a Mike Castellano (Brooklyn, NY) bunt single.  After a walk loaded the bases, Lewis singled down the right field line to plate Bugno and make it 3-2.  Joseph Valvano (Katonah, NY) then placed a sacrifice bunt down the third base line to score Castellano and tie the game at 3-3.

The Griffins, however, responded with another two-run blast in the seventh as Colin Tosti homered to right field to give the visitors a 5-3 lead.  GMC then added an extra insurance run in the top of the ninth on a Hirsch RBI double.

Andrew Sinon improved to 7-0 on the mound for the Griffins with a complete-game four-hit performance.  Sinon struck out four and walked only one.

Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) took the loss for Marywood after a complete-game effort.  Clearly allowed eight hits and struck out four in his final game on the mound for Marywood.

In all, six seniors played in their last games for Marywood.  After the game, Head Coach Jerry Davis and Assistant Coach Matt Fidati presented those seniors with commemorative plaques.  Marywood's 2010 senior class included third baseman Mike Castellano (Brooklyn, NY), pitcher and designated hitter Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ), catcher Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA), shortstop Ryan Cusomato (Sparta, NJ), outfielder David Lewis (Scranton, PA) and closing pitcher John Aber (Mount Upton, NY).
