Scranton, PA – Marywood University's volleyball team claimed 3-0 victories over the University of Scranton and King's College on the opening day of the Scranton Invitational on Friday night. The Pacers took the opener from the host Royals 3-0 before sweeping King's in three sets to improve to 3-0 on the young season.

In Friday's opener, Marywood claimed a 25-21 victory in the first set, a 25-19 decision in the second set, and a hard-fought 26-24 triumph in the final set to sweep Scranton. Emily Fillman (Clarion, PA) registered a game-high 14 kills and added one service ace and five digs. Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) added eight kills while Alyssa Hartranft (Mountain Top, PA) had a game-best 27 assists to go along with 13 digs. Rachel Tollett (Elkins Park, PA) had 18 digs to lead the Pacers.

Jenell FcFadden led Scranton, who fell to 3-4 on the season, with 7 kills and added 11 digs. Juli Woods led the Royals with 11 assists while Marissa Every had a game-high 21 digs in the loss.

In the nightcap, Marywood defeated King's in three games for the second time this season. The Pacers took the first set 25-12, before closing out the Monarchs with back-back 25-11 decisions in sets two and three.

Marywood, the lone unbeaten team in Pool A of the six-team tournament, will take on Pitt-Bradford, Centenary, or Wilkes at noon tomorrow before closing out the tournament with a 2:00 p.m. match against an opponent yet to be determined.
