Scranton, PA – Marywood University's volleyball team rallied after a 3-0 loss to Pitt-Bradford in Saturday's opener and earned a 3-1 win over Centenary College in the nightcap to finish second in the Scranton Invitational. The Pacers were led by Alyssa Hartranft, who recorded 70 assists on the day and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the opener, Pitt-Bradford handed Marywood its first loss of the season by winning 25-12, 25-21, and 25-15. Marywood's attack was led by Emily Fillman (Clarion, PA) and Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) who each recorded 10 kills. Hartranft (Mountain Top, PA) had a team-best 26 assists while Arielle Cassidy led the Pacers with nine digs.
In the nightcap, Marywood claimed a win in the first set 25-23 before Centenary even the match with a 27-25 decision in set two. The Pacers responded with wins of 25-21 and 28-26 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Fillman had a team-high 17 kills and 21 digs against the Cyclones while Erica Krakosky (Forty Fort, PA) added 10 kills of her own. Hartranft had match-high 44 assists. Cassidy added 19 digs in the victory.
Marywood returns to action on Tuesday evening when they open conference play at Philadelphia Biblical University. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Langhorne.
