Box Score

Scranton, PA - Wilkes University scored just over a minute into Monday nights non-conference field hockey game against host Marywood then added a goal with just over ten minutes to play as the visiting Colonels beat the Pacers 2-1. Wilkes improved to 2-1 on the season while Marywood drops to 1-4.

Marni Mancini opened the scoring by deflecting a shot into the net that was re-directed by Olivia Dworak after a penalty corner. Mancini took the Colonels first penalty corner and sent it to the top of the arc where Kaitlyn Bevans settled the ball and sent it in towards goal. Dworak put her stick up to settle the ball and Mancini finished to an open net at the far post.

The score remained 1-0 until halftime thanks to some strong saves from Marywood keeper Jamie Bowman (Cheshire, CT). Bowman stopped three shots in the opening frame. Wilkes enjoyed an 8-3 shot advantage in the first half (14-5 for the game) and an 11-0 advantage in penalty corners (20-2 for the game).

In the second half, Marywood got the equalizer just over eight minutes into play when Julie Dougherty (Wading River, NY) scored on a Nicole Wessner (Hamburg, PA) assist.

Wilkes, however, would get the game-winner at the 58:24 mark when Amanda Peters flicked the ball into an open net after Bevans settled another Mancini penalty corner.

Bowman finished with four saves while Briana Bacchetta (Long Valley, NJ) picked up a defensive save for the Pacers. Wilkes net-minder Lindsey Davenport allowed one goal while making three saves for her second consecutive win.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday when they open CSAC play against Gwynedd-Mercy College. Face off is set for 7:00 pm in Scranton.
