Scranton, PA - Marywood University swept doubles action quickly then cruised to straight set wins in five of six singles spots as the Pacers opened their 2010 campaign by downing visiting Lancaster Bible College 9-0 in non-conference women's tennis action Thursday afternoon in Scranton. 

Marywood (1-0) got a 8-3 win at one-doubles as Beth Schneider (Port Jervis, NY) and Lindsay Burke (Yorktown, NY) beat Nicole Karscher and Brianna Funk.  The Pacers would go up 2-0 on the day when freshman Melissa Hudock (Pitman, NJ) and sophomore Lauren Fersch (Netcong, NJ) toppled Carly Kensinger and Michelle Ringler 8-5.  Erika Von Zup (Tannersville, PA) and Elizabeth Sullivan (Binghamton, NY) then put Marywood up 3-0 with a 8-1 win at three-doubles.

Schneider would down Karschner 6-3, 6-2 at one singles and Von Zup would get the match-winning fifth point for Marywood with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rachel Schmuk at four-singles play.  Burke picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at two-singles while Kristin Guba (Latham, NY) earned a 7-5, 6-0 win at six-singles.  Hudock earned a three-set win over Funk, using a 10-6 super-tiebreaker win in the third and final set to earn her first collegiate singles victory.  Elizabeth Sullivan earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at five singles to close out the 9-0 win for Marywood.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when they host Immaculata University in the first Colonial States Athletic Conference match of the season.  The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
