Scranton, PA - Sarah Jackson's second goal of the game 1:35 into overtime lifted Gwynedd-Mercy College to a 3-2 win over host Marywood University Tuesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action. The win moves the Griffins to 2-0 in CSAC play (4-1 overall) while Marywood falls to 1-5 (0-1 CSAC).

Despite controlling play throughout the entire game, the Griffins found themselves down early as Marywood's Brittany Beaton (Fleetwood, PA) took a pass from Kelly Michalowski (Falls, PA) and scored on a one-timer, which was Marywood's first shot attempt. GMC responded a little over seven minutes later when Maria Karidas flicked in a cross from Nicolle Tourdott to knot the game at 1-1. Less than six minutes later, the visitors went up 2-1 as Jackson scored on an Erin Magee assist.

The score would remain 2-1 until Marywood converted the game-tying goal with just under nine minutes left. On just their third shot attempt of the game, Marywood's Kathryn Morin (Hopedale, MA) scored her first collegiate goal unassisted.

Despite being out-shot 24-3 in regulation and GMC holding a 19-2 advantage in penalty corners, the Marywood defense, led by goaltender Jamie Bowman (Cheshire, CT), held strong to force overtime.

Once in overtime, however, the Griffins would find Jackson on the break just over a minute in. Jackson went in alone but Bowman stuffed her first shot attempt before Jackson followed her own rebound for the game-winner.

Bowman finished with 15 saves on the day while Julie Dougherty (Wading River, NY) and Briana Bacchetta (Long Valley, NJ) each picked up a defensive save. Kaylin Bassett made one save to get the win for the Griffins.

Marywood returns to CSAC action Saturday with an 11:00am game at Cabrini College.
