Scranton, PA – Marywood University picked up a key early season victory thanks to two second half goals as the Pacers defeated visiting Centenary College 2-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. Marywood improve to 5-3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the CSAC while the Cyclones see their record drop to 5-6 and 2-1 in conference play.

The game remained scoreless at halftime thanks to solid goalkeeping at both ends of the field. Centenary's Caitlin Veverka had an open header off a corner kick five minutes into the game that Marywood goalkeeper Meghan Coyle (Endicott, NY) saved off the line. The Pacers had a good look of their own in the 25th minute when Caitlin Light (Annville, PA) slipped a pass to Kaitlyn Hresko (Gibbstown, NJ) eight yards from goal, but her shot was denied by Centenary net minder Ashley Denti.

The Cylones had the best opportunity of the half in the 33rd minute when Jazmine Farrell got behind Marywood's defense and fired a shot the Coyle parried over the bar one-handed for one of her four saves in the opening 45 minutes of play.

Olivia Habicht (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) nearly put Marywood ahead in the 60th minute, but Denti made a spectacular save on Habicht's shot from the top of the box. Centenary had a great opportunity of their in the 78th minute as Farrell again got behind the Pacers' backs, but Coyle blocked her shot and denied a rebound opportunity by Brittany Overland.

Marywood would finally break the deadlock in the 80th minute. Siobhan Blancaflor (Haddam, CT) took a pass from Jessica Cosentino (Port Jefferson Station, NY), beat her defender inside, and then fired a shot from 20 yards out that beat Denti into the upper-90. The Pacers doubled their lead just over a minute and a half later when Lacey Habicht scored directly off of a corner kick, ripping an in-swinger that Denti could not handle.

Coyle collected a game-high nine saves to earn her fourth clean slate of the year.  Denti finished with four stops for the Cyclones.

Marywood returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the College of Notre Dame in a CSAC match-up scheduled to kick-off at 1:00 p.m.
