Box Score

Scranton, PA – Mariah Schaeffer scored a game-high 15 points and Jamie Halloran pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to lead Marywood University to a 53-39 victory over Cabrini College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Monday night. The Pacers picked up their third-straight win and improved to 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play while the Cavaliers fall to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in CSAC play.

Marywood raced out to a 14-3 lead over the first 5:44 of Monday evening's contest, limiting Cabrini to just a single, three-point field go over that span. After a lay-up by the Cavaliers MaryKate McCann, the Pacers went on an 11-0 run over the next 2:25 to hold a 25-5 lead with nine minutes to play in the first half. The Cavaliers closed the half with a 10-3 run of their own to cut their deficit to 13 points at 28-15 at the break.

Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) and Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) each had eight points in the first half to lead Marywood, who shot 30 percent from the field in the first half and knocked down five of nine shots from beyond the arc. The Pacers held Cabrini to 21.7 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes of play and forced 14 Cavalier turnovers in the period.

Schaeffer extended Marywood's lead to 21 points with a jumper at the 14:36 mark of the second half before Cabrini went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to cut their deficit to 11 points at 40-29 following a pair of good free throw by McCann. That was as close as the Cavaliers would come though as Marywood extended their lead back to as many as 19 points down the stretch as the Pacers picked up their third-straight win.

Schaeffer finished with a game-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds for the Pacers. Thorsen and Halloran (Scranton, PA) each added nine points with Halloran pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds and four blocks. Marywood shot 33.3 percent from the field for the game and went 5-15 from three-point range and 70.6 percent from the free throw line.

Colleen Stewart led Cabrini with 10 points and nine rebounds while McCann finished the evening with eight points. The Cavaliers shot 23.3 percent from the floor for the game and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe while being limited to just one three-pointer in 13 attempts.

Marywood will be back in action on Thursday evening when they host CSAC North Division foe Cedar Crest College in a game scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
