Clarks Summit, PA – Marywood University held off a pesky Baptist Bible squad to pick up an important 65-52 Colonial States Athletic Conference win Monday evening in Clarks Summit. Marywood, who held a 22 point halftime lead, had to hold off BBC late in the second half as the Defenders found themselves down only four with a few minutes to play. In winning their second straight after a three game skid, Marywood improves their record to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in CSAC action. BBC falls to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in league play.

Marywood built a 38-16 halftime lead thanks to a strong defensive effort and a solid all around scoring performance from their offense.  The Pacers, who never trailed in the game, limited the Defenders to just 4 of 18 shooting (22%) in the opening stanza.  Marywood raced out to a 12-2 lead on a Brent Keyes layup and eventually went up 22-6 on a Matt Lepri (Tannersville, PA) lay-in.  The Pacers would build that 22-point lead, their largest of the game, on a pair of Lepri free-throws to end the half.

Baptist Bible did not go quietly, however, and began chipping away at the Pacers' lead.  A layup by Luke Peterson cut the Marywood lead to single digits at 46-38 with just over 10 minutes to play, and the Defenders continued strong defensive pressure to force turnovers.  A Peterson three with 3:41 to play made it 56-52 in favor of Marywood, but the Pacers responded with a 9-0 run  highlighted by a Keyes three to close the game and seal the win.

Marywood shot 42% on the night and held BBC to 37% shooting. The Pacers were just 4 of 16 from 3-point land but BBC only hit 3 of 14 on the night from long range. John Foreman (Sleepy Hollow, NY) and Keyes (Susquehanna, PA) each had 10 points and Marywood got balanced scoring all around.

Marywood looks to keep their winning streak alive when the Pacers take on Philadelphia Biblical University Thursday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm and will follow the women's 6:00 pm game versus the Crimson Eagles in the Insalaco Arena.
