Clarks Summit, PA – Marywood University placed four players in double-figures on their way to a 71-58 victory over Baptist Bible College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Monday night. The Pacers, who have now won seven-straight games, improve to 13-4 on the season with the win and 7-1 in conference play while the Defenders see their record drop to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the CSAC.
Marywood raced out to an 18-2 lead over the first 9:22 of Monday night's game led by six points by Allison Bruet (Binghamton, NY). Baptist Bible narrowed their deficit to nine points with 4:01 to play in the opening half when Laura Hodupp made the front-end of a pair of free throws, but the Pacers would hold a 34-20 lead after outscoring the Defenders 7-3 to close the half.
A lay-up by Baptist Bible's Kelly Bargfeldt 2:04 into the second half cut Marywood's lead to 10 at 36-26, but that was as close as the visitors would come on the evening as the Pacer lead remained in double-digits the rest of the way.
Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) led Marywood with 19 points while Bruet finished the evening with 16 points and a game-high seven steals. Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) netted 13 points while pulling down a team-best eight rebounds and Jamie Halloran (Scranton, PA) was the fourth Pacer in double-figures with 12 points. Marywood shot 39.1 percent from the field for the game including 21.4 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line.
Bargfeldt led Baptist Bible with 18 points while Kacee Rava finished with a double-double on 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Ruth Butts was the third Defender in double-figures after netting 14 points for Baptist Bible, who shot 40 percent from the field for the game, 50 percent from beyond the arc, and 54.8 percent from the charity stripe.
Marywood returns home on Thursday evening for a CSAC game against Philadelphia Biblical University that is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
