Pacers Pick Up Key CSAC Win at Immaculata

Immaculata, PA – Allison Bruet scored 14 points to lead four Marywood players in double-figures to help the Pacers extend their winning streak to nine games with a key, 61-56 victory at Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Marywood lifts their overall record to 15-4 on the season and 9-1 in conference play while the Mighty Macs see their record fall 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the CSAC.

Holding a slim, 7-6 lead with 14:02 to play in the first half, Marywood went on a 9-1 run over the next four and half minutes that saw them take a 16-8 lead when Marielle Thorsen drained a three-pointer with 9:24 left in the period. Immaculata battled back to make it a three-point game with 5:37 to play on a lay-up by Chelsea McTigue, but Marywood closed the half with a 17-5 run to hold 33-18 lead at the break.

The Mighty Macs chipped away at Marywood's lead and narrowed it to six points at 41-35 after McTigue completed a three-point play to cap 9-0 run by Immaculata midway through the second half. Marywood stretched their lead back to 50-38 with 9:03 to play on a free throw by Jamie Halloran, but the Mighty Macs remained again fought back and made it a two-point game on a lay-in by McTigue with 4:43 to play. 

The Pacers responded with a 6-0 run after McTigue's bucket to put the game out of reach as Marywood connected on 6 of 8 free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the win.

Bruet led the Pacers with 14 points while adding seven rebounds and three assists. Thorsen finished the afternoon with 10 points and team-highs of eight rebounds and four assists. Halloran and Mariah Schaeffer also finished with 10 points for the Pacers, who shot 33.3 percent from the floor for the game, 21.4 percent from three-point land, and 74.1 percent from the free throw line.

McTigue's 17 points led Immaculata, who shot 34.5 percent from the field including 29.4 percent from beyond the arc and 64.7 percent from the charity stripe. Chrissy Esbensen contributed 14 points while Leah Kuczynski and Bridget Welz each grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss. 

Marywood returns to the hardwood on Thursday evening when they host Gwynedd-Mercy College in a CSAC match-up slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
