Wilkes-Barre, PA - Matt Mullins had a career-high 29 points and Chris Derojas added 23 as host Wilkes University cruised to an 87-56 win over visiting Marywood University Wednesday evening in the Martz Center.  The Colonels, who improved to 6-5 on the year, shot 58% from the floor for the game while Marywood (5-3) connected on just 39% of their shots.

Wilkes raced out to a 16-2 lead over the opening 6:40 of the game and never looked back.  The Colonels dominated the Pacers on the boards, out-rebounding the visitors 42-23 and turning those boards into 18 second chance points compared to four for Marywood.

Wilkes came out in a whirlwind of offense led by their duo in the backcourt with Mullins and DeRojas. The Colonels began with a 23-7 run behind multiple three-pointers by DeRojas as well as jumpers and layups from Mullins. On the other end of the floor Wilkes contested every shot and held the Pacers to one shot on almost every possession.

In the first half, Wilkes held the Pacers to just 32 percent from the floor, while the Colonels shot over 47 percent. Marywood hit a few three-pointers down the stretch, but the deficit had become too large as Wilkes led 41-25 heading into the break.  Mullins had 12 points in the half on five-of-seven shooting and two assists, while DeRojas added 11 points of his own.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Marywood was never able to bring the deficit to less than 14 points. Wilkes kept the hot had going in the second period, shooting an astounding 73.1 percent in the half, mostly in part due to the shooting of Mullins and DeRojas.

Tyler Reinhard (Highlands, NJ) and John Foreman (Sleepy Hollow, NY) had 12 points apeice to lead the Pacers.  Reinhard connected on four of five shots from three point land.  James Lavan (Wilkes-Barre, PA) added 10 points.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when they face NCAA Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology Saturday at 2:00 pm in Newark, New Jersey.
